Summary

Experiencing windstorm under tent. Blossoms falling like snowfall from trees. Temperature dropping from 66 to 55 causes strong winds (molecules flowing between temperature differences). Wind power growing part of energy economy. 30-50 mph dangerous, current gusts ~20 mph. Plants propagate via wind. Lightning wonder - now scientifically understood but still incredible.

0:00 Welcome to Arts and Ideas in the Air, Wondrous Wednesday where I talk about something wondrous.
0:06 So I was thinking about talking about imagination, although right now I'm in the middle of a windstorm, which I think is pretty darn wondrous.
0:18 There's a tree across the way with blossoms. I had said flowers earlier to someone, they corrected me with blossoms.
0:25 And it's just being, you know, they're just falling off like crazy. It's like a snowfall.
0:31 That's pretty cool. I look out to the, you know, off into the distance. I see trees swaying here and there.
0:43 And stuff all stirred in the air. I'm under the tent and the tent is going up and down. And I mean, it's stable. Don't get me wrong.
0:55 It's stable. It's perfectly stable. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't stable. I have no desire to have a tent collapse around me or be ripped apart around me or anything else.
1:07 But yeah, there's definitely a lot of wind and it's just pretty awesome.
1:14 Of course, the reason we have a huge wind going on is that temperatures are dropping as, you know, the temperature, I guess it's kind of both.
1:31 It's like, you know, the temperature differences is where you have a lot of molecules wanting to flow.
1:42 And so, yeah, whenever we have strong temperature drops, we have strong winds and we're starting we're starting around 60 something today and now it's dropping down and oh, actually it still says 66 on my watch.
2:02 But supposed to get down to like 55 or so. So in like an hour or two. So that's a big drop. I'm cold. I got my winter hat on.
2:13 And of course, you know, the people out are in their shorts and run around and being happy. I remember those days of being young. I'm not young anymore.
2:23 Oh, well. So, yeah. Windy Wednesday. The force of wind is can be quite dramatic.
2:36 You can compute the amount of energy for, you know, that's available in wind power.
2:42 We have a growing part of our energy economy being based on wind power.
2:50 It's can be quite dangerous. You know, when it gets, you know, the 30 to 50 mile an hour range and, you know, winds higher than that is extremely dangerous.
3:08 I think it's supposed to get up to like maybe 20 miles an hour gusts right now. Plenty for me. It's, you know, there's a lot of plants that do, you know, propagate their offspring stuff via the wind.
3:29 So it's part of our life cycle here on planet Earth. And, yeah, it's just a lovely thing to experience when it's not too much.
3:47 And then possibly later today, we might have thunderstorms. I'm not sure that we actually will have here, but somewhere in the area, I think they should be thunderstorms. And, you know, the lightning is another powerful thing that just comes striking down.
4:04 It's just really incredible. You know, right now we have scientific understanding of why lightning happens. But, you know, 10, 20,000 years ago when it would just happen, it just really probably just was quite something to think about, I imagine.
4:27 It still is. So, yeah, I don't know. Just wondering about wind, lightning, experiencing it firsthand right now. Well, not the lightning, but the wind. And it is getting darker around here, so that's cool.
4:47 Well, I guess it's a short, wondrous Wednesday. I didn't really prepare for anything, so there you go.
