0:00 Welcome to ANI In the Air, Under the Tree, and Around Baltimore on your daily podcast briefing of all the goings ons, ins and rounds, arts and ideas, Sunday School.
0:09 So today I'm under the tree because the tent is being occupied. We've had a lot of activity outside today.
0:17 It's huge groups under the tree, under the tent, out on the field playing frisbee, kids running around, prop work being done for the end of the year show, all sorts of stuff happening around here.
0:41 We had a few JC cases, basically the JC went well. And then, what else, the JC and, I don't know, yeah, lots of people having fun as the year winds up to a close.
1:10 Lots of gag group activities, a slack line, a frisbee, yeah. I think a snowball stand, some people still going strong, and yeah, I think that's pretty much the day.
1:33 I kind of, I had that kind of space of, you know, not sure what actually to do with myself for a bit, so then I picked up stuff all around our property and adjacent areas, and also did some of the finance books and so forth.
1:56 But, yeah, I don't know. It's kind of a weird time for me. I never, I'm kind of a builder, so I don't really, like, I like to create things for ongoing stuff, and so I have a very hard time with the ending part of a year because it's just kind of like winding down.
2:21 I mean, there's the end of year show, but that's not really, that's not the kind of creation I do.
2:29 I did have a little bit of an inspiration of finding some dry erase markers. I put some out a week or so ago, and they all disappeared all over the place. I don't know what happened to them.
2:39 So I put some more out and kind of wrote a little message encouraging drawing on the whiteboards, and instantly there was stuff all over. I was very happy to see that. I just love the drawing on the whiteboards.
2:51 So, that's a good thing.
2:54 All right, well, I'm kind of proud of all in along. It's the second to last podcast, last Tip of the Week Thursday, so the theme of the week has been sort of this meta, you know, podcast, year thing.
3:10 I was thinking about it, and you know, I think that the lesson I got from doing this podcast is I kind of knew that it was unlikely to be listened to by very many people. It would have very little effect.
3:26 Well, I think it bared out, so thank you those few listeners who are listening. But, you know, I think it was still valuable, certainly valuable to me.
3:43 I think there was a certain aspect of valuableness to the community, just even knowing that it was happening.
3:49 You know, so I guess my tip is not to shy away from something that you suspect is rather pointless or futile or that you're likely to fail at or not do well.
4:08 You know, just trudge on. I think I also tie it into this idea that, you know, when things happen, you can either sort of assume that it wasn't your fault or it was your fault.
4:21 And I don't really want to get into that business, but the aspect of if something was your fault and you want to fix it, what do you do, right?
4:31 That kind of mindset, I think, is appropriate. It's not about finding someone to blame or get someone else to do it. You just handle it yourself, right?
4:41 You just do it. I think that is the aspect that I very much strongly approve of. That's kind of what led me to doing this podcast.
4:49 You know, just doing something, just trudging on, just, you know, finding a way to take a step and then take another step and take another step.
5:02 And it doesn't matter where you're really going. It's just that you're taking steps.
5:06 That to me is the core. It's something that I'd hope all the students here are learning over the many years of their time here is, you know, whatever happens, accept it and take appropriate actions as a result, right?
5:26 It's very kind of almost clinical or scientific, you know, emotions, of course, you'll feel. You'll feel all these emotions, but they're just like little advisors, little sources of energy.
5:42 And, you know, you can take them in and modify your action based on them. But, you know, letting them like consume you and prevent you from actually taking steps to address stuff.
5:52 That's the problem. So, you know, like this year, it's been a pandemic here.
6:00 You know, we had lockdowns. We didn't have a full year of being in person with one another.
6:05 We have all these masks and distances and, you know, one could really get kind of lost in the trauma of it all.
6:12 And it's, you know, not anyone particular's fault, but, you know, it could really get you down or you can just be like, well, this is what I got right now.
6:22 What can I do with it? Right. And, you know, the difference between those two attitudes is enormous.
6:29 And so I kind of did this podcast with this idea of doing something wasn't particularly effective, I think, in many ways.
6:39 But I kind of knew that going in. And so I did it anyway. And just the positive action of taking steps, you know, doing something.
6:49 I think that's that's something useful. I also wanted to say as my final word on the role playing thing, I think I mentioned that yesterday.
7:01 But afterwards, I kind of thought about it, modified a couple of things for the endings, which I think makes it a little nicer.
7:08 And then I also came up with a song for the credits, Dust in the Wind. I mean, Dust in the Wind, originally by Kansas.
7:18 I think the version that would work best is Scorpions. So if you're curious, go listen to that.
7:25 If you know both those bands, it's kind of fun to watch that kind of crossover. To hear the Scorpions voice tuning that song is a little bit of a trip for me.
7:38 Anyway, that's I think all I got today. So, you know, the words of the immortal Parker, you know, just do it. Just go out there, do something. Make it happen.
7:56 I will see you when I see you.
