Alright, welcome to ANI, in the air, under the tent, and around Baltimore, your daily
0:06
podcast briefing of all the goings ons, ins and arounds, arts and ideas at Sudbury School.
0:11
So today, I personally had an admissions interview in the morning, so I didn't come in until
0:17
kinda late, and then I had a staff meeting.
0:23
So I actually missed quite a bit of the day, that's what was going on.
0:27
But there was certainly lots of tetherball playing, I think one school media member kind
0:33
of did it for hours, just popping the ball, trying to get a younger one.
0:41
But yeah, I mean older ones play it, it's great fun.
0:45
We did lose a gaga ball yesterday, and hopefully there will be a new one inflated soon.
0:53
Maybe we can get that going again.
0:56
The chickens are with me here under the tent, they seem to kind of enjoy much of our grassy
1:03
surroundings, presumably bugs in there.
1:08
They are very happy.
1:11
And let's see, what else.
1:15
There was a field trip meeting, and it sounds like there are plans afoot for a beach trip.
1:23
So that could be exciting, good to look out for about that.
1:31
And let's see, tomorrow is the group yearbook photo, so please be here before noon to participate
1:40
in that, that should happen around noon.
1:44
And yeah, I think we also have a short article for Article Club, and I do believe that our,
1:55
let me just confirm that it was in fact announced, don't want to steal anyone's thunder.
2:07
All right, hold on, one thing I do not like about, yes, so we have announced on Discord
2:28
the practice thesis defenses, so we encourage people to read the theses, school meeting
2:36
members, and attend it asking them questions as if they were, you know, part of the panel.
2:49
So yeah, I think tomorrow it's a bit short notice, but we'll have two practices tomorrow
2:58
on two and three p.m., and then the other three theses will be handled next week.
3:07
So that's exciting to see all that happening.
3:12
All right, I think that's about all I've got to say.
3:18
We also have, because I would like to say, several school meeting members who have been
3:23
mastering bike riding while here in our parking lot.
3:27
We're quite happy with the parking lot being closed, and I'm hoping that that will, assembly
3:36
will be okay with it going forward, because it's been really nice not having to worry
3:41
about cars coming through our parking lot, certainly during the day, but our day goes
3:47
until the very end, so even parents picking up, you know, it's been nice not to worry
3:52
about that.
3:53
It's been a little bit, slightly tough with the construction that's diverted some traffic
3:59
down Holder, but hopefully that'll end soon.
4:04
And then Holder would be a nice peaceful place again, we'll see.
4:10
And anyway, so today is Wednesday, so I did a wondrous Wednesday, not too much, just about
4:17
cicadas, and I mentioned, well, I read the words from this Baltimore Sun article about
4:27
free black men from the 1700s who seemed to have the first writings on the cicada and
4:37
the 17-year life cycle.
4:39
So I read his words, and I think they were nice.
4:43
So I thought that was kind of wondrous, this whole, like, connection to the past, the cicadas
4:53
that were then 17 years to keep coming back.
4:58
It's really just like, what would that be, like 10, maybe 15 generations of cicadas since
5:08
then, compared with some other insects that are, well, I mean every year, maybe multiple
5:16
times in a year, would be like 200, 300 generations.
5:21
So through the cicadas, we are well connected to that pastime.
5:26
All right, well, you all have a good one, and I will see you when I see you.
