Welcome to Arts and Ideas, in the air, under the tent, and around Baltimore.

So today was a windy day, very windy. I am sitting under the tent, and the tent is still standing.
0:18
Didn't even move an inch. Well, I guess it wouldn't move an inch.
0:22
But, yep, our stakes are doing good, and we are feeling very confident about the stability of it and strong winds.
0:34
So this was a great test day for that.
0:36
So today, I think the most notable thing that happened was that the board attached to the big tree swing broke.
0:44
Somebody was kind of jumping up and down on it or something, and it broke.
0:50
So this created a whole slew of new activities around that rope.
0:58
And now it's just a swinging rope, and that's a lot of fun.
1:02
So, that was all very exciting here.
1:06
It was otherwise a fairly normal day. There was no JC today, and we had a staff meeting today instead of a Monday.
1:22
And that was good. That was our first staff meeting with Josh since he's been back.
1:28
And, let's see, I guess tomorrow there will be dancers using our field, and then either Sunday or early Monday we'll have the field mode.
1:40
And also over the weekend we'll have our cleaners coming by, so a busy off time for old arts and ideas here.
1:50
Took me a couple hours to pick up everything around the yard.
1:54
We have a lot of bricks, we have a lot, a lot of bricks, and I guess our students just love bricks.
2:00
So, that is something to note.
2:07
There was also an extremely heavy stone.
2:11
I had moved it, you know, before the last mowing.
2:17
I could, like, I only had to move it, like, six feet to get it off the grass, and I barely managed it.
2:24
And then, like, the day after the mowing, the stone was, like, moved 20 feet.
2:30
So, I left it there until today, and then I had to get a wheelbarrow, and I was struggling mightily and pushing it up and around.
2:37
And then I got it on the wheelbarrow, and I was wheeling it, and that was tough, tough going.
2:43
I dumped it on the stones that we have near the stone wall.
2:48
Man, I do not understand how our students move that stone.
2:53
I just don't. They obviously did. I don't know how.
2:58
I think it was heavy. Very heavy.
3:02
I'd actually be curious to weigh it, because, you know, I could imagine it being, like, 70 pounds.
3:10
I don't know. It was a lot of weight.
3:13
Anyway, so that is, I guess, mostly what I have to say about the day.
3:26
I wasn't in a staff meeting much of it, so I didn't get to see much of it.
3:31
I tried to continue my cleaning of windows, and I got to exactly one pane of glass before, you know, things took over.
3:45
So, yeah, that's what I'm going on about.
3:53
So, it's farewell Friday, so I will bid the farewell. Hope you all have a great weekend.
4:00
Next week is the first week of May.
4:03
Just as a gentle reminder, we do have almost two months to go.
4:11
We end June 25th this year.
4:14
So, yeah, we still got a lot of time left in this school year, and more and more students are coming back.
4:26
Yeah, I think, as I said earlier in the week when we had our school meeting, every single person on the team happened to be in person.
4:35
First time that happened this year.
4:37
So, yeah, you know, we are rapidly approaching getting back to normal around here, except for, you know, the face masks and the social distancing and windows open at all times and, well, all those things.
4:52
But in terms of number of people, friend groups are starting to become full again, and it's exciting to see.
5:04
And best of all, the COVID numbers in the city and the county are finally going down.
5:10
The positivity rate has been well below the 5% threshold that we used to have, I think, for the past week.
5:19
And the case rate numbers have decreased in half since last week.
5:26
So on a very great trajectory, vaccines are rolling out.
5:30
We have more and more of our students having vaccines, you know, one, 16 and over, of course.
5:37
But that is happening as well, which we are happy to see.
5:41
So good news all around and have a great weekend.
5:47
I will see you when I see you
