Welcome to Arts and Ideas in the air, under the tent, and around Baltimore, your daily podcast briefing of all the goings ons, ins, and arounds of Arts and Ideas Sudbury School.

So today was a cold and windy day. Quite cold in fact.
0:15
And, um, yeah, uh, what happened today? So we had no JC because we only had one case at the time and it was cold and the case wasn't urgent so I had to wait for a day to hear it.
0:38
And, uh, so instead I took the time with Phil to start replacing some of our rebar for the tent with these kind of drilling stakes.
0:48
Phil kind of sharpened the edges and then it went smoothly into the ground. It's quite the sight to see.
0:57
Phil's kind of holding the stake down, trying to keep it straight. I'm not very good at the straight thing.
1:03
And then I'm just kind of walking around with a big pole, like a, you know, turning like the big wheel.
1:11
And, uh, yeah, it goes in. It takes about six minutes per stake, but, um, it's working.
1:17
And, uh, the tent is, um, you know, now I've got much firmer, um, stakes in the ground.
1:25
Uh, they're about four feet long, I believe. Um, and, uh, you know, they go in, uh, they go in pretty good and pretty well.
1:33
So, uh, we still have, uh, more to do, but, uh, we, there was a few that were coming out and, uh, they are now doing quite well.
1:42
Alrighty. Uh, what else happened today? Um, well, yeah, uh, it was, um, generally a subdued, subdued day outside.
1:57
Uh, oh, we had Article Club. That's right, we had Article Club. And, uh, yeah, when Article Club was about to happen, I think there was, you know, there was some gaga ball playing.
2:07
Um, kind of some competitive one-on-one stuff, it seemed like, for a while. And, uh, in Article Club, we just shared some articles that we read, uh, which was quite a collection of different topics to talk about.
2:25
Um, and, yeah. And then the day got a little chaotic, and, uh, well, there'll be a few cases in JC tomorrow, so that'll be interesting, but, um, yeah.
2:41
Anyway, uh, tip of the week Thursday is today, and, um, well, my tip is, and, you know, I planned to do this a couple weeks ago to talk about this.
2:56
It was much more appropriate then than today, but, you know, it's, I guess it's looking forward to the warm weather.
3:02
Uh, basically, my tip is, if you don't have a screen door, there are these things called magnetic screen doors.
3:09
Uh, they, uh, they kind of attach with adhesive, um, to the frame of the door, and, uh, you know, so you have this adhesive strip going around, uh, it's, uh, velcro, and so you velcro the door up.
3:24
And then in the middle, there are these magnets, and they just kind of, like, when you go through the door, the magnets, uh, come back to each other.
3:32
Uh, you need to have kind of the top center pulled up a little so that the doors kind of want to come back to the middle, and then the magnets cinch it up.
3:41
And then, you don't have to worry about any bugs coming in, but you can just walk in and out without, you know, having to mess with the door, have anything.
3:50
Uh, naturally enough, I know about this because I bought a house a few months ago if I haven't mentioned it.
3:57
And, uh, there's a door in the basement that has this cement ramp that goes up to it, and then it just kind of drops down.
4:06
I don't know if it was some attempt to prevent some sort of water coming in or what the deal was, uh, but there's just no way to put a normal screen door.
4:13
There's no place to swing it without removing the cement block, I guess, but I don't know why it's there, so I wouldn't want to do it, and, you know, removing that is not exactly an easy thing.
4:22
So, the next best thing is this, you know, screen mesh that just swings up and down.
4:29
Uh, going in is no problem, just walk right in and then it comes back.
4:33
Going out is a little bit problematic because it wants to, like, catch on the cement ramp, so you can either do it kind of carefully or just step out, but, you know, it's fine.
4:41
Uh, and I just love it.
4:43
Uh, we also got another one, we haven't hung it yet, uh, for our kitchen door.
4:47
Uh, for some reason when we saw the house, there was a door, and then after we bid on it, it disappeared.
4:55
Um, but that's okay, it didn't look great.
4:57
So, uh, you know, I'm kind of excited about this screen door.
5:02
A magnetic screen door, uh, just to be able to open up that kitchen door and just have all that air coming in.
5:09
So, uh, yeah.
5:12
Uh, screen mesh, pretty awesome stuff.
5:18
Very pliable, very malleable, uh, works well.
5:22
So, that is, uh, a podcast for the day.
5:28
Uh, I hope you all have been having a great week, uh, tomorrow's Friday, the last day of the week, and then we have the weekend.
5:36
Um, so, uh, yeah, here's hoping that tomorrow's a great day, and I will see you when I see you.
