0:00 Welcome to "In the Air, Under the Tent, and Around Baltimore," your daily podcast briefing
0:07 of all the goings-ons, ins and rounds, arts and ideas, Sudbury School.
0:10 So today, for Talk About Tuesday, I have a special feature.
0:16 Parker was on campus today and agreed to an interview.
0:20 So yeah, you can listen to that and hear about what he has to say about his experiences.
0:28 So if you think the interview was great and want to hear more interviews, let me know.
0:37 Maybe volunteer yourself.
0:39 So yeah, I hope to be able to do more, but I appreciate at least doing this one.
0:48 I think it's worth a good listen to.
0:51 Anyway, today we had a rather lengthy JC and then a lengthy school meeting, and I really
0:59 appreciate everyone who sat through it all.
1:04 Our teams are, you know, people are really dedicated.
1:10 It was a bit of a trying experience.
1:12 We had a recycling truck go by, we had helicopters, we had ambulances, we had motorcycles, we
1:20 had dogs, and various other noises.
1:25 So you know, being out here in the tent, it's beautiful weather, it's wonderful, but it
1:32 can certainly be a difficult sound experience.
1:37 Although really the weather is gorgeous today, just gorgeous.
1:41 Had a number of people playing in the Gaga Pit earlier in the day, a long game of Frisbee
1:47 going on for a while, lots of action on the swings, there was some kind of water sports
1:53 going on, like water gun stuff going on at one point.
1:58 Yeah, so a lot of that cool activity.
2:02 Oh, let's see, yeah, school meeting was pretty thick with stuff, so it's kind of hard to
2:11 summarize everything.
2:12 We had a couple of JC referrals, changed the JC non-attendance rule to basically allow JC
2:22 to finish a case if someone leaves, or decided a couple other routes to doing it, tabling
2:31 it or sending it to school meeting.
2:36 But the idea is, you know, we want to be able to finish cases if someone does not want to
2:40 be there.
2:43 Let's see, some other things, we changed the name of the rule of stalking to no unwanted
2:50 following, I personally did not like the term stalking, and thought it was far too harsh
2:56 for what happens here, it's just people following each other around, and so yeah.
3:04 Also changed our portable electronic devices rule to headphones, because that's what everybody
3:07 calls it, basically you have to wear headphones.
3:12 Let's see, we also, school meeting approved, changing the minimum salary for a staff member
3:19 to $40,000, it was $30,000 before, when I started it was $25,000.
3:25 So anyone who was not at that minimum already is now that, and then we're freezing the rest
3:31 of the salaries to not bust the budget for next year.
3:40 There's also, we'll be having our assembly budget meeting on a week from Sunday, so that's
3:48 good.
3:51 Let's see, then we have a new rule for the VR equipment, it has 22 little sub rules,
4:00 so if you're interested in that, make sure to read that up.
4:04 Increase the budget for the VR corporation, so they could actually have some games, they
4:08 have the headset, and then a few other things, we've replaced, well basically changed the
4:15 name of the nail corporation to the cosmetology corporation, that's exciting.
4:21 We have a new COVID rule of school meeting members cannot be within six feet of a doorway
4:25 without their mask on.
4:27 This is basically to deal with people eating outside of the door and people not wanting
4:33 to walk basically through that.
4:35 Now that we have the tent, they can eat under the tent.
4:40 And we had some approvals for people to use our field, and yeah, that's pretty much it.
5:05 So yeah, that was good.
5:08 So that was kind of the day, it's kind of a full day.
5:15 Since I am the gavel clerk and there's no JC and school meeting clerk, because I guess
5:20 this year is too weird to have people wanting to do this, it's really challenging actually.
5:26 I was doing JC and school meetings, so that was like two and a half hours of running meetings
5:31 and we had some technical problems.
5:37 Phil is out again today who usually runs all the technical stuff for the school meeting.
5:44 Hopefully next week will be better.
5:52 So anyway, as I said, Talk About Tuesday is featuring Parker, so check that out.
5:58 Have a great rest of your day and I will see you when I see you.
