0:00 Welcome to ANI In the Air, Under the Sky, By the Fire, and Around Baltimore.
0:06 Your daily podcast briefing of all the goings ons, ins and rounds, arts and ideas at the Sudbury School.
0:11 So today is Tuesday, which means two things. One, I did a talk about Tuesday. This was on graduation.
0:19 I hope it might be useful to somebody to listen to. Nothing earth-shattering in there.
0:24 Just kind of talking about it and a few thoughts of mine on that.
0:29 One thing I forgot to mention in there is simply my recommendation to anyone who is partaking in the thesis process to meet quite regularly with their group.
0:42 It's not really required. We have some meetings required, but I find weekly meetings to be a very useful thing indeed.
0:51 But the other thing that happens today on Tuesday is school meeting. We had actually kind of a long meeting today.
0:59 We had a bit of discussion on a possible camping trip at the end of June.
1:09 And a little bit of discussion on how we might be better able to welcome new students.
1:16 We're going to have a lot of visiting students over the next month or so.
1:20 So we want to get that clear.
1:24 And then we didn't have any much discussion on this, but I also was trying to get a discussion going on about staff feedback.
1:37 Generally, in the past couple of years, we've had a student or two or three go around asking people for feedback on the staff.
1:46 Staff can't really do that because it's asking about feedback for the staff.
1:51 So we were discussing what to do with that.
1:55 You know, basically, it'd still be nice if we could find a student who would be willing to go around and talk socially distanced from people.
2:03 But maybe we can just do an online forum.
2:08 We need to at least do that for the people at home.
2:11 And so we'll see. We'll see how that goes.
2:17 But, you know, the staff really want to hear what any thoughts that students might have about it.
2:28 There was also a little bit of a discussion about the woodpile from the carriage house and the hopes of us getting rid of it.
2:35 Hopefully soon and proved a hamster for coming in tomorrow, as well as we had a lengthy discussion about someone's desire to dig a rather deep hole to make it into a room.
2:55 And all the implications of that, such as misutility, structural safety of the walls, where to actually put it.
3:06 All these actual dimensions, you know, all these things that need to be considered.
3:16 So we tabled it to see, to allow the person who brought it to kind of figure all out more.
3:26 And then, yeah, there was also JC, just one case, kind of a case where one person was doing something annoying to another, but just thinking they were having some fun and it wasn't.
3:39 And so, you know, that breaks a rule.
3:43 It's kind of a, you know, people have been with the school for a while, and so it went, you know, really quickly because, you know, they were clear about what their version was.
4:01 And then, you know, they agreed they broke the rules, and so that was that.
4:08 It's just sort of really nice when we have people who are not resistant to the process, like we often have with new students who are also the ones who are often in JC because they're getting adapted to our kind of way of, you know, being in a community here.
4:28 All right, there was some, a pretty good circle of frisbee throwing going on, some bead making work outside.
4:38 It was a beautiful day, some bike riding in the parking lot, a variety of things with bamboo sticks, some people walking around trying to balance them on their hands, other people kind of doing kind of mock sword fights with them.
4:54 And there's also a bunch of shredded bamboo stuff all over the place as people whack things around.
5:01 That's all cool.
5:04 Just more fun around here.
5:08 And lots of talking and conversation.
5:11 Always, always lots of talking and conversation.
5:15 All righty. So I think that's about it for today.
5:26 I guess you all have a good one and I'll see you when I see you.
