0:00 Welcome to ANI In The Air, Under The Sky, By The Fire, and Around Baltimore, your daily
0:09 broadcast briefing of all the goings ons, ins and rounds, arts and ideas, Sudbury School.
0:15 So today is Friday, the last day of our first full week since we've been back in person.
0:23 It was a cold, windy day. We still had our windows open of course, although not as wide
0:35 open since the cold air just kind of wants to flow in. It's kind of amazing just how
0:42 strong that flow can be, which is good. We like to dilute all the air inside with fresh
0:50 air on the outside. Our heating system is going full tilt and keeping us all toasty
0:57 warm, I hope. Of course many students are still outside, which is great. So lots and
1:06 lots of our students able to handle the cold and the wind and well I'm out here cold and
1:14 being blown but I'm surviving. Today there was the hike. Had apparently a nice good group
1:24 of people kind of all hiking together at a base they all liked and coming across I guess
1:34 a nice little beach and a band building that they kind of explored. There's some great
1:40 photos that Ashley took and hopefully some of them will appear in the newsletter that
1:46 will hopefully be coming out very shortly. Here at school Phil and I had put up some
2:01 test stuff for new tent stakes to keep the poles up and we took them down. Still a little
2:08 bit of work to get everything to be done efficiently when we go to put up the big tent but we have
2:16 ordered the larger heavier drill in stakes to make it a nice solid tent raising experience
2:28 when we get to it in a few weeks hopefully. For now we are all very appreciative of being
2:36 able to just sit in the bright sun because it's so cold. Did I mention it was cold? It's
2:41 cold. Looks like there was some workshop activity today and lots of running about on the outside
2:53 and yeah I don't know it's all good. So it's no JC today so it's kind of calm on that front
3:06 and we are still getting reports of people planning coming back. Hopefully we'll see
3:13 a couple students come back next week and then you know we'll see. I think in a couple
3:20 weeks we'll be doing our first visiting week since we've been back. For the most part it
3:27 will be people doing the visiting week in anticipation of the fall but we might get
3:34 one or two new students enrolling this year. It's still a possibility particularly thanks
3:40 to us having extended the school year by a few weeks because we usually cut off enrollment
3:46 three months from the end but that is now a little bit farther out. I guess I should
3:52 also just remind all the listeners out there that you know we had modified the calendar
3:58 so in addition to ending later in June we also got rid of our spring break and just
4:08 replaced it with March 26th we're taking off that Friday. Otherwise we are in session so
4:18 yeah that's all good and I think that's everything. So farewell Friday it was a good week. First
4:34 J.C. in school meetings since we were back. Lots of activity outside even in the cold
4:39 and the wind that we had at the end of the week and I don't know was it raining earlier
4:44 in the week? Yeah it was raining on Monday but you know our students are very hearty.
4:52 Chickens are hearty too. They've been enjoying the fact that we've been back so that they
4:56 can go walking around throughout the day. Yeah I think that's about it. Oh we also we
5:09 had installed through our safety grant these lights looking out onto our parking lot from
5:16 the roof and being able to highlight the fields. We have had some successful tests of that.
5:26 It's kind of light when we end the day so it's a little hard to get too much of an insight
5:31 as to how it's going but on my way home at times I have seen them come on and just a
5:39 nice bit of illumination. So looking forward to that. And of course we had gotten an inflatable
5:48 screen for movie nights in the future. That was on our school meeting on Wednesday. So
5:54 yeah. A good week of preparing for the future. Yep. Alrighty then. I think that's all I have
6:05 to blabber on about. And you all have a great weekend. See you on Monday either in person
6:15 or online. And you all have a good one. See you when I see you.
