Welcome to ANI In The Air, online and around Baltimore, your daily podcast briefing of
0:07
all the goings ons, ins and arounds, arts and ideas at Bray School.
0:10
So today was Monday, November 30th, the last day of November.
0:16
Tomorrow starts the month of December for us.
0:20
So today we had our usual Monday announcements.
0:24
And it was announced about some goings ons, specifically the Creative Writing Club met
0:35
at noon, and it looked like there might have been six very cool pieces written.
0:42
And I believe they were posted on Discord, if you're interested, just go under the Creative
0:47
Writing Club text channel.
0:55
And we also had a Minecraft Hangout.
0:57
And for the first time, we were able to have both the Java and the Bedrock edition together
1:05
playing.
1:06
It was great.
1:07
It was like, it's the same program.
1:09
So thanks to, I believe it was Harrison who got all that working for us.
1:15
So that was great, very much appreciate it.
1:17
I hope it was a great time for all who attended it.
1:21
And so from now on Minecraft Hangouts will be combined.
1:25
It also seems to have some feature of people being able to have their own kind of creative
1:34
space so that people can't kind of mess with.
1:38
So that's great.
1:41
And different modes of playing and a whole bunch of other things that I don't really
1:45
understand.
1:46
So kudos to everyone who was involved in that.
1:50
I hope it was great fun.
1:56
Let's see, what else?
2:00
There's also been some motion on the sweatshirts for the school design was shown at announcements.
2:08
I'm not sure if there's pictures and discord, probably get that to happen if it hasn't happened.
2:15
And so hopefully, yeah, here's some more about spread sweatshirts soon.
2:22
And yeah, I think that might have been major goings on.
2:28
So today, tomorrow, we will have school meeting at one.
2:33
And I'm not sure if we have other things scheduled, but that's a good thing.
2:38
I had read the team at announcements and will of course, put on discord, it's the same team
2:43
as last week.
2:44
So be sure to show up if you're on the team.
2:47
And so it's a good idea to show up even if you're not because it's a fun way of staying
2:50
connected.
2:53
All right.
2:56
What else?
2:57
Well, it's Millions Monday.
3:00
So I was thinking since it's Cyber Monday, could sort of think about all the packages
3:08
being sent.
3:10
So you know, it can be a little hard, and we'll just stick with the US.
3:17
And we'll say, you know, there's, we'll just go on a household basis.
3:25
So it's roughly 100 million households.
3:30
Some will, of course, have more packages than others.
3:34
Larger family sizes, or money, or friends, whatever.
3:41
But so you know, probably at least everyone gets one package, let's say and so that's
3:48
kind of a minimum and it'd be kind of crazy to get like 100 packages from this time period.
3:58
I think, I'd hope.
4:01
So we do geometric mean one in 100.
4:04
And that's just like 10.
4:06
So 10 packages per household, let's say, during this kind of time period.
4:14
And so that's, well, that's a billion packages, just right there.
4:24
Now, what's the average weight of a package?
4:27
Actually that varies quite a bit from pretty much nothing, but let's say one pound, to
4:34
maybe even 50 pounds or 100 pounds.
4:40
It did again, one to 100, then geometric mean is 10.
4:43
Nice and easy, 10 pounds.
4:45
That seems a little high to me, maybe it should be like a geometric mean between one and 10.
4:49
That's gonna be about three.
4:50
So three pounds on a package, sure, why not?
4:55
And so three pounds per package, a billion packages.
5:01
So that's three billion pounds being moved.
5:04
So that's cool.
5:06
What about money?
5:08
So how much does one package represent oftentimes?
5:14
Well, probably at least $5 for something to be delivered.
5:21
And the 100, 200, obviously can be really high.
5:26
You know, it could be electronics of some kind, expensive stuff.
5:33
So I'm gonna just say, say $70 per package.
5:40
So that's the case, and it's a billion packages, and that's $70 billion right there.
5:46
All right.
5:47
Well, so that was just some fun with guesstimating numbers.
5:52
One could probably look it up somewhere, average stuff, although this year is no doubt going
5:58
to be a little different than other years given how much incentive there is to shop
6:06
online rather than in person.
6:09
So anyway, I hope you enjoyed this little guesstimation about consumerism.
6:19
And I will talk to you all another time.
