0:00 Welcome to ANI In The Air Online and Around Baltimore, a daily podcast briefing for the goings ons, ins and rounds, or to an idea that's not very school.
0:09 Today is Millions Monday, November 23rd, 2020. We had our announcements today.
0:21 We tried something different today where it was primarily on Zoom, but also with an audio feed into the dining room voice channel on Discord.
0:30 This was in an effort to deal with the, you know, having video, but Discord, if someone is showing a video in a voice channel, it's automatically limited to 25 people.
0:42 So to get around that, we'll just be using Zoom, but not everyone can easily get on Zoom. So we'll have an auditory audio pipeline into the dining room voice channel.
0:56 All right. What was announced? Well, basically there was, there's more Minecraft going on this week. That seems to be a popular item of interest.
1:12 I believe there will also be another photos meeting on Wednesday. Keep your ears out about that.
1:21 This is the week of Thanksgiving, so we are technically closed Wednesday through Friday.
1:28 And let's see what else. My little role playing game seems to be going well. It's been fun.
1:40 And I see lots of kind of people chatting in the voice channels on Discord. So hopefully lots of people are making good connections.
1:49 If you're listening to this and not connecting with people, try to make an effort to make connections.
1:55 That's how you stay sane in these times. You know, just chatting with somebody, another school meeting member can really be helpful in lifting the spirits.
2:08 So try to reach out, try to find something. Anyway, so on Millions Monday, I thought since Thanksgiving is coming up,
2:19 I've heard a terrifying statistic that 50 million people will be traveling for Thanksgiving compared with 55 million last year.
2:30 You know, with this COVID pandemic, it's good to stay home if you at all possibly can. I certainly will be.
2:38 But I thought, you know, so 50 million people traveling. How much gas is that?
2:45 So, you know, you have to guesstimate how far they're traveling. You know, I feel like travel and visit family, particularly in these times, maybe it has to be a little bit, you know, not so close by.
3:01 So I'm thinking maybe an hour's journey from home. So about 50, 60 miles. So two ways. That's something like 100, 120 miles. If I think of miles per gallon as 30 miles per gallon,
3:18 then the 60 miles is convenient and that's two gallons of gas one way. So four gallons of gas. The 50 million people probably includes multiple people in the same car,
3:31 maybe two or three often, although sometimes just one. So I'm going to go with just 25 million cars.
3:39 So four gallons of gas for the round trip and 25 million cars is 100 million gallons of gas.
3:52 So. There you go. And. Yeah. So all the gasoline to spend on.
4:08 Getting tricky. You can do similar computations for like figuring out how much gas is spent generally on commuting.
4:17 So you do time. So if they're spending two hours of commute time and there's.
4:27 Twenty five. Well, so this would be actually the people. So 50 million people in the car, two hours.
4:33 So that's 100 million hours. That's fun. You convert that into how many man years, human years, I should say, that would be.
4:47 And what else? You might also think about miles traveled, so.
4:54 Let's say 25 million cars going 100 miles would be, you know, so it's 250 million with a 10, 2.5 billion miles.
5:08 So that's cool. In comparison, the believe going around the equator would be 25000 miles. So it's the equivalent of 100000 trips around the equator.
5:24 All right. Well, so that's some idle speculation of Millions Monday. Hope you enjoyed it.
5:29 Hope you enjoy the holiday in whatever fashion you want to think about it.
5:36 Hopefully you can all stay safe and your family stay safe and we'll talk to you all another day.
