0:00 Welcome to Arts and Ideas in the air, under the tent, and around Baltimore, your daily
0:05 podcast briefing of all the goings-ons, ins, and arounds of Arts and Ideas Sudbury School.
0:11 So as I speak, the pumpkin carving is just about winding down, I believe.
0:20 Hopefully no pumpkins were too harmed in the process.
0:24 I think there was a lot of excitement and a lot of pumpkin-ing going on.
0:31 So that's all cool.
0:35 We also had our five to seven year old chicken today, that led by Ashley.
0:39 I think that went very well, a lot of enthusiasm for the school express, a lot of love.
0:45 So that was great to hear from all the youngins.
0:49 It's always amazing to me how, you know, we have a few new young students and, you know,
0:58 they were expressing what I might expect from students who have been here for a long time
1:05 in terms of understanding how it really works, motivations for what we do, and the downsides
1:11 of the other places.
1:12 So that was great.
1:15 Let's see, oh, yes, some running over the mulch pile with some boards placed down on
1:23 top of it to make a nice good running ramp.
1:26 A bunch of students just became the welcoming committee today as they were sitting in the
1:35 parking lot.
1:37 It's really nice to be able to take over that whole parking lot, so that's pretty cool.
1:45 Let's see, so for next week we have, I believe, Josh's history class was canceled on Wednesday,
1:58 so I believe on Monday there will be the presentation and it will be on World War I and the bicycle.
2:07 That sounds cool.
2:10 I recommend taking a look at the young Indiana Jones chronicles, I believe there was sort
2:20 of the World War I time period and some bicycling going on there, so that's cool.
2:28 Anyway, next week is also, of course, Halloween, so we don't have any food this year for Halloween
2:37 for COVID reasons, very sad, but I believe there is plans for a haunted house in the
2:43 art room and I believe there's also plans for people online to be able to come for,
2:49 I don't know, a couple hours, I'm not sure if that's entirely definite yet or defined,
2:55 but it'd be great to see everybody who is willing to come by.
3:02 We love Halloween here, it's our favorite holiday.
3:05 I have to say, I don't have any plans to wear a costume, so don't expect something awesome,
3:12 I just don't have the brain space this year, sorry about that.
3:18 Alright, we also have movie night tomorrow night, hopefully the weather will be good
3:23 for us, and so I believe the movie is Onward, so that's exciting.
3:37 So this is Farewell Friday, it's been a good week, a lot of fun stuff happening, some really
3:43 good JC stuff, beautiful weather, I think next week might be another good week of weather.
3:50 Oh yeah, we had the assembly meeting last night, and that went well, it was pretty short,
3:56 about half an hour, just kind of reporting on how things are, nobody had any big concerns,
4:02 we mentioned our cold weather plans, which we're implementing, of getting air purifiers
4:09 for various rooms in our school that typically are not, you know, in the winter we don't
4:17 open the windows there because it's cold, it's kind of like the older part of the building
4:21 that has that feature, the newer part, like where the computer lab is and the infotarium,
4:28 they seem to have their windows open during the winter every year, so we think they'll
4:34 just be fine, but I guess we'll see, we'll see how the air purifiers work out for us,
4:39 but hopefully that'll help keeping the indoor air fresh and clean, as well as our HVAC system,
4:49 ideally our HVAC system is able to handle it and refresh it, so this should just be
4:53 a little extra aid to it to make double sure that we're all good.
4:58 We also talked about plans to take down the tent before the freezing weather begins, hopefully
5:05 it'll last until, you know, right about our winter break, but it's a lovely tent.
5:11 Of course, also when it gets cold, one doesn't really feel as much of a need to sit under
5:17 a shady spot, it's kind of nice to be in the sun, so I guess we'll see how that goes.
5:24 The month of January and February will be the hardest in terms of cold weather in winter
5:29 of course, and then the breaking of spring and March is always a fun thing to look forward
5:36 to, particularly going to be this year.
5:39 All right, well, I hope you all had a great week, I hope you all have a great weekend.
5:46 Sure, well actually this weekend's not so bad because there's a movie night, so you
5:51 can come out, online or in person people can come, just, you know, be out in the fields,
5:58 socially distanced from one another and we'll be all good.
6:02 Make sure to bring your masks and keep your distance.
6:11 Have a good one and see you on Monday.
