0:00 okay welcome to arts and ideas in the air under the tent and around Baltimore
0:04 your daily podcast of all the goings-ons in around arts and ideas Sudbury School
0:12 today we had a bunch of interesting traffic incidences apparently at the end
0:18 of the road they are digging up the road and so we'd see trucks driving by and
0:23 then backing up it's a narrow road so it's hard for longer trucks to back up a
0:30 couple times narrow school meeting we had to just pause as trucks went beep
0:34 beep beep all the way down the road the fun of being under a tent outside all
0:41 right today we had our first virtual JC clerking of the year our JC clerk was
0:47 home and did awesome job of being online as the JC clerk I think it went well a
0:55 little bit tricky to arrange everybody to be within the camera site but we
1:02 managed it and so that was cool and yeah JC went well as usual like people were
1:15 very forthright with what happened and very accommodating we the lengthiest
1:20 discussion is just the discussion of the rules deciding whether they apply or not
1:23 and having a good sense of you know what works we had school meeting today and we
1:36 had a number of things that we discussed and that did we passed a couple budget
1:40 for corporations namely contemplation corporation and art corporation so
1:45 looking forward to all that we also passed a approval to use some of the
1:51 professional development funds for purchase of these workbooks for the
1:57 staff for kind of anti racism notions in self-directed education circles
2:06 essentially how we can sort of see the problems and biases from the outside
2:13 culture filtering in here and then we also discussed Halloween plans pretty
2:25 much was clear people did not want to have the Halloween party food due to the
2:30 pandemic which is no doubt sad for some but seems a very reasonable precaution
2:37 costumes were a big yes mentioned possibly having online people visiting
2:43 perhaps you know the people who are online coming in person and visiting for
2:47 some limited hours or something or other
2:52 one of the students wanted to create a haunted house and we'll be talking with
3:00 party corporation about what they have and what could happen so that's kind of
3:05 cool and then there was also some mention of a costume competition so
3:10 that's all cool so hopefully future school meetings that will be where that
3:16 is tomorrow we will have the 12 to 15 year old check-in so if you're in that
3:23 age range please plan on attending whether in person or online if you want
3:29 a preview of that I've tried to do when I talk about Tuesday topic basically
3:38 talking about some of the issues surrounding our students going to
3:44 conventional high school and I don't know if I really quite said everything I
3:48 wanted to say it's pretty it's pretty distracting out here quite frankly but
3:55 you know I'm hopeful some of those thoughts are will be presented tomorrow
4:00 I'll be chairing that meeting and so I'll probably get to say a decent amount
4:06 but I tend to try to be quick in meetings we have a number of students
4:13 that will be having to attend so that's you know even more important to be brief
4:21 there's also the history class for tomorrow which I believe is the the old
4:30 West Cowboys and all that good stuff and now that relates to bicycles I don't
4:37 know if like it's about how bicycles replace horses or something I don't know
4:42 but I guess we'll see tomorrow what Josh has in store all right I think that's
4:50 about it for today you all have a great day and we'll see you tomorrow
