0:00 all right welcome to arts and ideas in the air under the tent and around baltimore your daily
0:07 podcast briefing of the goings-ons at arts and ideas it's a little late today because of a very
0:13 long staff meeting and when i mean long i mean long two and a half hours people that's what we're
0:19 doing right here meetings meetings too many meetings who said that meetings were part of
0:27 democracy oh well it's lovely to talk to people anyway uh what happened today so
0:35 i was on a staff meeting much of the day so i don't actually know um too much but uh there
0:41 was jc uh this morning uh it was a nice uh conversational case you know there was a
0:48 write-up and then there was um sort of an agreement of the facts um i was kind of actually
0:55 inclined to even drop the case uh but the um subjects decided uh well the rules written on the
1:04 paper but it was you know some other rules and that also made sense to the jc team and it just
1:11 you know it was just like one of those cases where clarity the the forthcoming of the subjects
1:20 you know it was like oh yeah this is what happened yeah you know like you could see that you know it
1:25 was an attempt to really get at the truth and then being cool with whatever happened uh i just love
1:31 that it's just so refreshing uh what else oh and in the jc team list uh it's progressing and we
1:39 now have sort of a mixture of a team so we'll see how that's working out because some people were
1:43 out and and and so forth so um other people finish their term and they drop down to the bottom list
1:50 so i think that's nice uh a really exciting new uh addition to the arts and ideas field experience
1:59 is our round net came yesterday it got some action today um it's kind of like a volleyball trampoline
2:08 thing um that you you hit a ball into it and it bounces off and then somebody else has to hit it
2:14 back onto the net and then somebody else and somebody else and and so forth um it's uh
2:21 actually pretty hard uh it seems pretty simple minded but you know like uh the ball can easily
2:30 go very far very short um so we'll see how that goes uh i think it would take a lot of practice
2:38 for people to get good at it and um yeah and then i was in a staff meeting for two and a half hours
2:45 i also read uh the article for article club it was uh it's this article about
2:53 uh so this author rector bragman i was writing a book called humankind and he knew about the
3:00 lord of the flies this book and you know i was like oh kids left alone and become all
3:05 all bad and whatever and he was like did this ever happen you know was there ever an instance
3:10 like this because he felt like what he's learned about humans is that that wouldn't happen and so
3:15 um he he did uh find an example of six boys that were uh kind of shipwrecked on an island uh they
3:26 spent 15 months there and they had a really you know worked out everything and then they
3:32 got rescued and they became lifelong friends um so really heartwarming story i
3:40 hope all you school media members will be able to read the article it's posted in discord and um
3:49 if you also search lord of the flies bragman um and i'm probably saying their name wrong but
3:55 that's basically how you spell it the uh you should be able to find the article pretty easy
4:00 it's in the guardian it's an excerpt from the book uh i read the book it's a really nice book
4:06 it's very uplifting so if you're feeling a little down about human's future
4:12 read the book and be like oh okay it's not so bad it's nice all right uh we also have so this
4:21 is tip of the week thursday um henny hendrix asks uh regarding the popcorn that i mentioned last
4:30 week uh how long do i pop so i set it for four minutes and about after a minute and a half
4:37 kind of the bag fills up and so i empty it but there's still a lot of kernels left and so then
4:42 i put it in again usually for about 45 minutes i do that i mean 45 seconds 45 minutes it burned
4:49 down the place um 45 seconds uh twice and that's good but i also find so you know the the bag isn't
5:00 sealed like uh usual microwave popcorn bag it's just folded over on itself and sometimes it pops
5:06 open everything spills out and you can get frustrated about it but i kind of like to think
5:12 of it in those moments as my rage popping out of the bag and just going and then i stop it and i
5:19 clean it out and it's like oh rage contained so extra tip of the week um i wanted to revisit a
5:28 topic i mentioned before which is a quarter uh coin shortage um and so uh you know if you're
5:39 looking for quarters say to do laundry uh one thing you could do is see if you can actually
5:46 tap into the the quarter cycle uh if you will so you know i use coin laundry and um you know we
5:56 have apartment people and they collect coins from all over the place and so we bought some coins off
6:02 of them um it cuts out the bank uh which is cool um it doesn't help with the the really the coin
6:10 flow issues but it solves your problem that's what we're all about here tip of the week for
6:18 solving your problem regardless of the consequences all right um you all have a good rest of your day
6:26 see all um again later and uh article club tomorrow at 11. bye-bye
