0:00 All right, welcome to Arts and Ideas in the Air, Under the Tent, and Around Baltimore.
0:07 This is day number five of our new school year.
0:12 This day saw the first full formal school meeting using school meeting teams,
0:20 and I think it went very well.
0:22 We had a number of items on the agenda, some rule approvals and changes
0:29 related to some COVID-19, in particular the ability to bring out electronic devices outside,
0:35 which was a little bit of an oversight on our part.
0:38 We also got approval for various things, including, most importantly, this podcast.
0:44 We also got ourselves J.C. Clerk, Declan.
0:48 He stepped up and looks really promising for a great J.C. Clerk for the month of September.
0:56 All right, the day is a little on the cold side, but it's very pleasant.
1:02 Just hanging out here underneath the tent, another beautiful, gorgeous day.
1:09 I don't know if you can hear it, but there's some weed whacking going on.
1:12 It's weed whacking to make the gaga bit actually accessible for playing gaga.
1:19 All right, let's see, what else happened?
1:24 Well, let's see, tomorrow we've got an exciting online activity.
1:32 If you're there, Josh, what do we got going on tomorrow?
1:36 Well, thanks, James.
1:38 So, yes, tomorrow we are going to have the first history seminar lecture of the year.
1:45 This is an online activity that I am organizing based around my historical obsession with the bicycle.
1:58 So over the summer we had some lectures and discussions about bicycle history.
2:04 And on deck for tomorrow is going to be a discussion of the introduction of the pedal bicycle to America.
2:14 So we're going to talk a little bit about the context of that exciting import from France of the bicycle
2:23 and a little bit about the American context of what was going on in the middle of the 19th century in the United States.
2:32 So talk about every historian's favorite topic, the American Civil War.
2:40 If you can, please show up at 1 p.m. on our Discord.
2:49 I believe there will also be a little bit on Revolution Haiti.
2:54 I completely forgot to mention the highlight of tomorrow's lecture,
3:00 which is actually one of the participants over the summer of our history seminar is going to be doing their first presentation.
3:08 So Declan is going to give a -- to start off our meeting is going to give a presentation on the Haitian Revolution.
3:17 We had previously talked about the American, the French, and the sort of revolutions in the Spanish colonies
3:29 and talked a little bit about the Haitian Revolution.
3:32 Declan has done more research and put together a presentation about what his findings are.
3:42 Cool.
3:44 All right.
3:46 So that seems like an exciting thing to check out tomorrow.
3:53 What was it at 1 p.m.?
3:55 It is starting at 1 p.m.
3:58 And it will be posted on Discord?
4:01 The discussion will probably be happening there.
4:04 We have a text channel in Discord.
4:07 However, we are going to be -- and there will be a link, but I think it's going to be a Zoom link to do our video chat and presentation.
4:17 So a little bit complicated in terms of getting online, but it has proven to be the most successful combination so far.
4:27 All right.
4:28 Sounds great.
4:29 So that's here for day five of Arts and Ideas.
4:33 Looking forward to day six.
4:35 And really, it's a beautiful day.
4:38 Good day to be outside.
4:40 Hope to see you all around again soon.
4:43 Bye-bye.
